Woodpeckers Mortise Base uses the guide rod attachment points of your plunge router to mount a fully adjustable fence on both sides of your material. You have pinpoint control of the drag on your material and the position of the mortise in the stock thickness. With 4 different sizes of stainless steel guide rods, one size is almost sure to fit your router. Many routers come with an edge guide that mounts to the guide rods, but when mortising on a narrow edge, one shallow fence isn't enough. Woodpeckers Mortise Base uses 2 fences, both a full 2" wide to give you the support you need for flawless mortising. What's more, your mortise can be any length you want, as deep as your router bit will reach and the width of any router bit made.
Stabalize your plunge router on narrow stock
If it has guide rods, we can probably fit it. Woodpeckers Mortise Base fits just about any plunge router. Big or little, corded or cordless, latest and greatest or a vintage classic. We offer 4 sizes of guide rods, 1/4", 5/16" (8mm), 3/8" and 10mm. If you're not sure of your guide rod dimension, use the chuck end of a drill bit to check the guide rod opening. The cleverly designed fence mounting system adapts to any spacing between the rods and any spacing from the rods to the bottom of the base plate (up to 1/2").
Face indexing avoids alignment issues. Just make sure you keep the engraved fence against the exposed face of your material and your joints will align perfectly. If there's a variation in stock thickness, it will be on the hidden side of the assembly. The Mortise Base works equally well for loose tenon joinery or cutting mortises for machine-cut or hand-cut tenons.
The guide rods, fence rods and hardware are all stainless steel. The fences and brackets are milled from aircraft grade aluminum and surface-treated for appearance, corrosion resistance and friction reduction. This is a lifetime tool that can easily be reconfigured for any router you may get in the future.
Like all Woodpeckers products, the Mortise Base is precisely machined and carefully inspected in our shop in Strongsville, Ohio (just south of Cleveland)
