Woodpeckers Offset Base simplifies centering Domino mortises in standard dimension material. Instead of sliding the Domino’s reference plate up and down, precision-milled spacers positively position a larger, more robust plate a specific distance from the center of the cutter. No guesswork, no squinting to see a tiny, scale…just pick the right set of spacers, place them between the base and the plate and start mortising. The plate can’t slip, even if you bang on it. Even better, if you have to make a replacement part for your project, just use the same spacers and the mortise position will be precisely the same…six hours, six months or six years from now.
Improve the Accuracy of Your Domino Joinery
The system starts with a very flat, carefully machined base that fastens to the bottom of the Domino (either model…DF-500 or DF-700). The reference plate (the part you hold against the top of your material) is joined to the base with stainless steel spacers. It’s the length of those spacers that determines the position of your mortise. By simply changing the spacers you can center your mortises in five different material thicknesses; 1/2", 12mm, 18mm, 23/32" (the size of most 3/4" plywood) and 3/4". There are .005" shims to tweak the mortise position to even tighter tolerance and an optional expanded spacer set that gives you 6 additional options for thicker material (1", 1-1/4", 1-3/8", 1-1/2", 1-3/4" and 2").
A Natural Extension to Your Domino
If you’re comfortable with your Domino, you’ll find the Offset Base a natural extension of the system. Other after-market accessory bases make you use the Domino upside down, but Woodpeckers Offset Base works just like normal. There’s even a laser-engraved scale indicating the center of the mortise, just like on your Domino.
Add Flip Stops to Speed Production Runs
Add even more versatility with Outriggers and Flip-Stops. The outrigger system works exactly like the paddles in the base of your Domino. The stops are exactly the same distance from the center of the mortise on both sides of the machine. Set up as many stops as you want with the outrigger on the left side of your Domino. Cut your mortises to each flip stop. Now, transfer the outrigger to the right side of your Domino and cut the mortises in your mating piece. They’ll be perfect mirror images and the mortises will line right up. The track sections can be joined to create an outrigger up to 54" long, but you don’t have to make it any longer than you need for the job at hand.
Ordering Options
The“Base” includes the base plate, reference plate, five sets of spacers, shims, and mounting hardware. The complete “System” adds five outrigger sections, four track connectors, and four flip stops. For either the Base model or the System, add the optional 5mm spacers if you’re using a Domino XL. Both Base and System configurations are available in inch or metric graduations. In addition to the Expanded Spacer Set mentioned earlier, there’s also an optional set of Table Apron Spacers that will automatically create set-backs of 1/8", 3/16" and 1/4".
