Long Lasting 10 Flute Solid Carbide Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) Diamond Coated Router Bits
With the high demand for cutting tools for advanced materials such as carbon fiber, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), CFRP + stack and other non-ferrous materials used in the aerospace and auto industries. CVD coated tools are significantly longer lasting when used on abrasive materials and therefore are perfect for long production applications. CVD coated tools provide:
- Lower setup costs: Due to longer tool life there is less need to be investing time in replacing used tools and lower downtime
- Faster throughput times: Higher feed rates allow one to process more material in less time – thus increasing efficiency
- Longer tool times: Longer tool life decreases cost per inch/mm
Contrary to the 'world of wood', composite materials vary greatly and even different types of CFRP can behave differently from one another depending on the specifics of the materials included. Amana Tool®'s design will work on the various types of CFRP however there may be different performance levels for specific types of material on which they are to be used.
It is well known that diamonds are the hardest most durable material naturally occurring in nature and thus have unmatched durability. CVD coating allows for more design flexibility in the cutting geometries as compared to Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) and provides greater tool-life over carbide tools. Another advantage of CVD is that there is less chance of breakage from rough handling than PCD.Â
Advantages of CVD coated tooling:
- CVD tools last approximately 10 to 20 times longer than standard tungsten carbide tools
- Machining speeds for CVD tools can be increased by as much as 2-3 times that of carbide, directly resulting in higher productivity
- CVD tools provide the best surface quality and edge retention for the most consistent finish of any tool
