When you're laying out furniture and cabinet joinrey you need a tool that’s reliably accurate and convenient to use. Woodpeckers new Joiner’s Saddle Square is the perfect companion for your joinery projects. Two CNC-machined aluminum plates are joined at a right angle. This “wrap-around” design gives you two valuable features. On one end you can mark both the face and edge of a board around the corner. On the other you can continue the short side of a 45° miter around the corner just as precisely. But we didn’t stop there. We machined scribing guides into both sides and included 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° reference guides. There simply isn’t a more complete compact layout tool on the market.
Furniture and Joinery Layout Just Got Easier
The more common 1-piece extruded squares that look similar typically can’t deliver the level of perpendicularity necessary for serious woodworking. By machining each side of the Joiner’s Saddle Square from a billet of solid aluminum and joining them with an extended boss, we’re able to hold very tight tolerances for both flatness and perpendicularity of the two sides. This tool delivers the level of precision necessary for accurate joinery.
Let's take a closer look at the scribing guides. A staggered array of 1mm holes on 1/32" centers perfectly guides a mechanical pencil for lines parallel to the edge of your board. Woodpeckers has built that feature into many of its tools, but there’s something different on the Joiner’s Saddle Square. Its unique right-angle design let us align one group from right to left and another left to right…no more trying to read upside down for half your scribing jobs.
You'll find most any standrard angle layout you need, since you have the 45° milled edge and milled slots at 30°, 45°, 60° and 90°. All angles originate from the intersection point of the two sides, making it easy to lay out complementary angles. The sides of the Joiner’s Saddle Square are 2-1/2" deep. The 45° side is 7" long and the square side is 5" long.
The outside edges have laser-engraved scales graduated in 32nds. For your convenience, one edge is laid out from left to right and the other goes from right to left. The square end is also graduated, reading from the corner of the square out in both directions.
Before they're joined together, each side is anodized in our signature “Woodpeckers Red” color and laser engraved. The screws that join the two sides together are stainless. The result is a tool that is immensely functional, a pleasure to work with and attractive on your bench or hanging on its wall-mountable Rack-It™.
Like all Woodpeckers products, the Joiner's Saddle Square is precisely machined and carefully inspected in our Strongsville, Ohio facility just south of Cleveland. This former OneTIME Tool is now joining our permanent product line-up.
